Fifty six loose firearms and war items turned-over in Bacolod Lanao del Norte

KUTA SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur  – Through the collaboration of Joint Task Force “Ranao” and municipal officias of Bacolod, Lanao del Norte, another fifty six (56) assorted loose firearms and other war items were turned-over by the local folks in a simple ceremony held at Sidlak Hall, Brgy Poblacion, Bacolod, Lanao del Norte on April 30, 2018.

Attending the activity were officials of the municipality and barangay, and officers of the 2nd Mechanized Brigade under Joint Task Force Ranao headed by the Commanding Officer, Col Robert C Dauz.

After the inventory, turned-over war items include seven (7) assorted high-powered firearms; forty nine (49) assorted low-powered firearms; one hundred forty nine (149) assorted ammunitions; and three (3) rifle grenades.

Mayor Joselito E Miquiabas of Bacolod in his speech said: “We fully support the national campaign of the military and the government against loose firearms. We want our town to be peaceful and progressive and we will strive to get even more by convincing other residents to also turn-over their unregistered firearms.”

Col Robert C Dauz, Commanding Officer of 2nd Mechanize Brigade, proudly acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the troops under the 5th Mechanize Battalion for the successful and diplomatic approach leading to the voluntary turn-over of firearms and other war items by the civilian residents of Bacolod municipality.

The continuous turn-over of firearms in our area of responsibility further validates the “Very Good” net trust rating of the local populace to the security sector based on the latest SWS Survey, said Major General Roseller G Murillo, Commander, 1ST Infantry Division and concurrent Commander of JTF “Ranao”.

As the Brgy and SK election is fast approaching, this will surely lessen any terroristic acts and election-related violent incidents that may hamper the peaceful exercise of the people’s right to suffrage, he added.

Turned-over firearms and war items are now at Headquarters, 5th Mechanize Battalion for safekeeping and proper disposition.
