CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan Zamboanga del Sur – A Guerilla Front Committee secretary of the Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) was killed and seven ranking members were apprehended (one is wounded) during the two separate encounters with the joint law enforcement operation of Army’s 10th Infantry Battalion and 2nd PNP Mobile Force Company in Ozamiz City, 5:50 a.m. Sunday, August 25, 2019.
Former rebels in Misamis Occidental, who returned to the folds of the law, identified the killed CNT as Alias Nasi/Felix, Secretary of Guerilla front Sendong, Western Mindanao Party Committee.
The first firefight transpired in Brgy Bagacay that lasted for five minutes. The second firefight also lasted for ten minutes.
Other apprehended CNT members were deputy secretary, platoon leaders, and section leaders.
Recovered during the encounter were one M16 rifle, four caliber .45 pistol, seven hand grenades, three motorcycles improvised explosive components, extortion money worth 50 thousand pesos and foodstuffs.
In coordination with the local government unit, dead CNT Secretary was given decent funeral services.
“This is a big blow to the CNTs of Guerilla front Sendong as well as the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee and we expect that they will be disorganized and disgruntled,” said Col. Leonel Nicolas, commander of 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade which has operational jurisdiction over Misamis Occidental.
Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander, commended the efforts of the troops that led to the successful neutralization of CNTs.
“The neutralization of the CNT secretary and seven others is a significant accomplishment for the constituents in Misamis Occidental. The CNT’s terroristic activities was preempted and will pave the way for more progress and development of the province”, Ancan said.
“Our condolences also go to the family of the dead CNT member. It is tragic that he took arms against the government which led to his senseless demise”, added Ancan.
