5 Zambo Norte NPA Receives Cash Assistance

CAMP SANG-ANG, Labangan, ZDS – Five members of Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) who surrendered to Army’s 97th Infantry Battalion this week received cash assistance in Punta Blanca Gym, Manukan Zamboanga del Norte 11:00 am. Saturday, September 14, 2019.

A total of 100 thousand pesos were given where each former rebels (FRs) received 20 thousand pesos cash.

The cash assistance is part of the local peace initiatives of the LGU of Zamboanga del Norte under the stewardship of Gov Roberto Y Uy.

According to Uy, “The assistance is a good start for them to fully reintegrate and live normally”.

Each FRs are also entitled to receive financial assistance from the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program fund.

“Aside from the 65 thousand pesos, they will also receive cash remunerations based on the firearms they’ve surrendered “, said Lt. Col. John Andrada, 97th Infantry Battalion commander.

For his part, Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander, lauded Gov Uy and the local government unit (LGU) of Zamboanga del Norte for the FR’s cash assistance.

“The stern leadership of Gov Uy and the initiative of LGU of Zamboanga del Norte will entice more rebels in our area of responsibility to surrender,” Ancan added.

“We hoped that other provinces will replicate this kind of initiative to assist and encourage our FRs to return into the mainstream society”, Ancan added.

“We also lauded the Provincial Task Force ELCAC and the efforts of PILG and PSWD who continuously facilitate and assist our FRs to return to their normal lives and helped them become productive citizens,” Ancan concluded.

CHANGE OF COMMAND:

On the same day, Major Darel Dexter Uy (Res) PA, Mayor of Dipolog City, will now lead the 902nd Ready Reserve Battalion, 9RCDG after the change of command ceremony held also in the Gymnasium.

Major Uy succeeded Lt. Col. Reynaldo P Concha (Res) PA.

Their unit is capable of assisting the province in socio-economic development, environmental protection, disasters and rescue operations.

“We are glad that Major Uy will lead this unit. His experience as local chief executive will be able to accomplish the unit’s mission positively”, said Ancan, who presided the change of command ceremony.
