CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – Locals of Poona Bayabao, Lanao del Sur surrendered three firearms to Army’s 49th Infantry Battalion 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
“The firearms consists of one M14 Winchester, one M16A1 rifles one caliber .38 revolver, magazines and ammunitions”, said Lt. Col. Edgar Allan Villanueva, 49th Infantry Battalion commander.
“The concerted effort and intensified collaboration among our troops, local communities, local chief executives and other stakeholders made the locals yield the firearms”, Villanueva added.
Meanwhile, Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade Commander who has operational jurisdiction over Lanao del Sur said that “This is part of our campaign against proliferation of loose firearms so that the locals would feel more secured and safe in their daily activities.”
Cuerpo also urged the locals to continue to cooperate and report to proper authorities for the proliferation of firearms in their communities.
For his part, Maj. Gen. Roberto Ancan, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) commander, lauded the troops, the local government unit and stakeholders of Poona Bayabao.
“I urge everyone to continue our efforts in pursuing lasting peace not just for Mindanao but for the whole country. Let us conquer the challenges ahead of us and step up the momentum in sustaining our gains for our common aspiration”, said Ancan.
