CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – The 55th Infantry (VIGILANT) Battalion celebrated its 34th Founding Anniversary in their headquarters in Madalum, Lanao del Sur, Thursday, November 7, 2019.
The Battalion was officially activated on 07 November 1985 during the height of Abu Sayyaf Group in Jolo, Sulu.
For three decades, the battalion served the constituents in Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Occidental and Lanao province combatting different threat groups in 1ID’s area of responsibility.
It was redeployed back in Lanao del Sur during the Marawi Siege and significantly contributed to the liberation of the city.
Lt. Col. Ian Noel Ignes, the current battalion commander, during his speech thanked and recognized the stakeholders for their invaluable and genuine support to the unit in the pursuit of peace and sustainable development.
“We’ve worked so hard through the years to help the people in our area of operations to the zenith of peace and development and I take pride in saying that we have the best and astounding men and women in the Army who were driven with dedication and faithful service”, said Ignes.
Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., the Acting Division Commander of 1ID and the guest of honor and speaker, congratulated the 55IB troopers for their selfless duties and thanked the stakeholders for the earnest commitment and support to the unit.
“You have proven your worth and never cease to go beyond greater heights. May you continue to be instruments of peace and pursue your mission with zeal and devotion”, said Gaerlan.
“Let all the achievements and lessons learned in the 34 years of existence of this battalion serve as your reference points in the continued effort you will be exerting towards the accomplishment of our over-all mission of winning the peace and creating an environment conducive to sustainable development”, Gaerlan added.
Deserving personnel and local chief executives were also awarded during the program.
