Lanao Sur Municipality turn over loose firearms to Army

CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – A total of 44 loose firearms were turned over by the locals of Bayang, Lanao del Sur and its neighboring municipalities to Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion and 103rd Infantry Brigade in Bayang, Lanao del Sur 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 18, 2019.

The loose firearms that were handed over were one 50 caliber sniper rifle, one M653 bushmaster, one M16 rifle, one Garand, two homemade uzi, two M79 grenade launchers and thirty-six handguns.

Mayor of Bayang, Hon. Aslani Balt who facilitated the turn-over of the loose firearms, thanked the Army for their effort in sustaining peace and development in the municipality of Bayang.

According to Col. Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Brigade Commander who has operational jurisdiction of Lanao del Sur, “The concerted effort and intensified collaboration among our troops, local communities, local chief executives and other stakeholders resulted into this momentous activity”.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr, the Acting Commander of the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces), commended the efforts of the troops and the local government unit of Bayang, Lanao del Sur for the convergence of efforts which led to the successful hand over of the loose firearms.

“Your 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, in collaboration with the LGUs and other stakeholders, remains steadfast in its commitment to attain just and lasting peace in our area of operation thru our campaign against loose firearms,” Gaerlan added.
