Army’s 1ID Awards Gallant Trooper

CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division this week awarded troopers who’ve demonstrated courageous act and risked their lives in their performance of duty in the command’s area of responsibility.

Last Saturday, in Camp Evangelista Station Hospital, Cagayan de Oro city, Brig. Gen. Gene Ponio, the division commander, conferred the Wounded Personnel Medal award to the five Tabak trooper, who were wounded during the shooting incident last December 24, 2019.

Two were dead including a junior officer, and five were injured during that incident.

On Sunday, Brig. Gen. Ponio also awarded the eleven 82nd Infantry Battalion troopers with Military Merit Medal at their headquarters in Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur.

The awardees were recognized for their neutralization of one Dawlah Islamiyah Maute terrorist remnants in hinterland boundaries in municipalities of Balindong and Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, last January 24, 2020.

They’ve also recovered one M16 rifle, one kilogram of explosive components for improvised explosives and a container of rice during that engagement.

According to Brig. Gen. Ponio, “While we are accomplishing our missions, morale and welfare should not be taken for granted”.

He also assured to provide the best medical care for the wounded trooper for their speedy recovery.
