CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur – The 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Philippine Army together with the City Government of Dipolog and other stakeholders joins in commemoration of the 123rd Rizal Day at Plaza Magsaysay, Dipolog City today December 30, 2019 with BGEN BAGNUS P GAERLAN AFP, Acting Commander, 1ID, Philippine Army as  guest speaker.

BGEN GAERLAN in his speech said, “Dr. Jose Rizal, Along with all our heroes, did not die in vain for this nation. They are the patriotic sons and daughters of the Filipino nation who had believed that their lives, hardships and sacrifices will be worth it for the future generations of our country – we should not fail them”.

This year’s commemoration is centered on the theme: “Jose Rizal: Huwarang Pilipino sa Ikadalawampu’t Isang Siglo”.

 

He added, “We must arouse our nationalistic fervor and join hand in hand in the continuation of Rizal’s aspiration for our country. Let us epitomize his noble work in our actions even in the simplest acts that we do.”

 

The occasion is an annual activity to commemorate the nationalism and martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, highlighted with a wreath laying and flag raising ceremony.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, ZDS – Fifty-nine Former Rebels and their supporters are now job-ready after they’ve graduated to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Training Skills 9:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2019 held at Multipurpose Building, Brgy Guinoman, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay Province.

The former rebels and their supporters successfully completed the Livelihood Training such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Food Processing and Cake Baking for one month.

TESDA Regional Director Noralaine R. Rasul, Ph. D. congratulated the graduates and hoped for more enrollees like FRs for them to gain skills and jobs which is beneficial for their families.

Lt. Col. Don Templonuevo, 44th Infantry Battalion Commander, who facilitated the surrender of FRs and their supporters and assisted them to enroll in TESDA, vowed to work and encourage more surrenderees to sustain the gains of peace and development in the province.

Meanwhile, Col. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade Commander who has operational jurisdiction of Zamboanga Sibugay said that, “This fruitful endeavor is the result of the whole-of-nation approach and the convergence of the National Government Units and Agencies in the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict”.

For his part, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr., Acting Commander of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division and Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN, was delighted by the successful activity and the choice of the FRs to become a productive individual.

“This is the best gift you (FRs) have received this yuletide season. Use and take advantage of the skills you’ve just acquired and be a productive citizen in your communities”, said Gaerlan.

“We also hoped that you will encourage some of your comrades to follow your path, stop the armed struggle and live a normal life”, Gaerlan concluded.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – Three organic units of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division were awarded by the Commander-in-Chief, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, during the Armed Forces of the Philippines 84th Founding Anniversary held in General Headquarters, Tuesday, December 17, 2019.

The 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade, headed by Col. Leonel M. Nicolas; the 44th Infantry (AGILE and STABLE) Battalion, headed by Lt. Col. Don D. Templonuevo; and 53rd Infantry (MATAPAT) Battalion, headed by Lt. Col. Marlowe E. Patria, received the Kapayapaan Plaque for their successful clearing of the Communist Terrorist Group’s (CTG) Guerilla Fronts “KARA” and “FELICIANO B” in the Western Mindanao.

The CTG KARA and FELICIANO B have estimated 64 members since year 2015 and is operating in Zamboanga Peninsula before it was declared cleared.

The whole-of-nation approach, which entailed support and active participation of  local government units, agencies and other stakeholders, was the strategy used by the operating battalions.

Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr, the 1st Infantry Division acting commander, who also attended the event, commended the commanders and personnel of the three units for the well-deserved award.

 “As your acting commander and the former commander of 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade, I and the Tabak troopers were proud and congratulates you for your accomplishments”, Gaerlan added.

“Let’s maintain the competence and professionalism that we have displayed in fulfillment of our sworn duties in our areas of responsibility in Western Mindanao”, Gaerlan added.

In accordance with the AFP’s 84th Founding Anniversary, the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division here today conducted a simultaneous flag raising ceremony.

Col. Jose Randolf M. Sino Cruz, Assistant Division Commander for Retirees and Reservist Affairs, read the message of Gen. Noel Clement, Chief of Staff AFP.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines have always been dedicated to fulfill its mandate of protecting the people, maintaining the integrity of our national territory, and upholding the sovereignty of our state”.

“As we celebrate the 84th Anniversary of the AFP, let us recognize our accomplishments and aspire for higher goals to serve our country better. Let us maintain the competence and professionalism that we have displayed in fulfillment of our duties”, Gen. Noel Clement.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division activated the 1st Division Cafgu Active Auxiliary Affairs Unit (1st DCAU) here, today, December 10, 2019.

The 1st DCAU, in charge of the administrative affairs of the Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) units in the area of responsibility of 1ID, will be led by Lt. Col. Rufino De Leon, the former 5th Infantry (Duty Bound) Battalion commander.

During his assumption speech, De Leon vowed to do his best to effectively and efficiently manage the unit.

The activation also created an additional one companies each infantry battalions in the area of operations of 1ID.

The Delta Company, which is composed of CAA personnel, will be operationally controlled by the infantry battalions in their AOR.

JUNGLE WARFARE MOUNTAIN OPERATIONS COURSE

After the Activation, the newly graduated 417 Privates will now undergo a six-week Jungle Warfare Mountain Operation Course (JWMOC) immediately after its opening ceremony.

The JWMOC will enhanced the Privates basic military knowledge and acclimatized them in the actual ground through combat scenarios and exercises in different situations.

Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr, the 1st Infantry Division acting commander and the keynote speaker of the joint ceremony, lauded the CAAs and Cadres for their accomplishments and valuable services rendered in sustaining the peace in Western Mindanao.

He also challenged the Privates to train hard in order to be successful in their career.

“You will be trained to fight, to think, to follow orders and to win. Take it seriously because you are the cutting edge and future of the AFP in its pursuit of peace and development in our country”, Gaerlan added.

The 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division reaffirms its support for the commemoration of National Human Rights Consciousness Week here today, December 9, 2019.

During the flag raising ceremony, Col. Jose Randolf M. Sino Cruz, Assistant Division Commander for Retirees and Reservist Affairs, read the message of Lt. Gen. Gilbert I. Gapay, Commanding General, Philippine Army.

“Our organization will continue with its engagements with the youth in our communities in peace building and development programs. We will also continue to educate them and protect them from the dangers brought by exposure to radicalization and violent extremism.”

“Let us always remember that the peace and prosperity that we all aspire for can be achieved with our fellow soldiers and citizens helping each other and standing on solid foundation built on mutual trust and respect for one another.” Lt. Gen. Gapay.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – The Annual General Inspection for the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division was culminated here yesterday, December 3, 2019.

The Office of the Inspector General, Philippine Army, headed by Brig. Gen. Gilbert F. Saret, lauded the 1ID’s leadership for its commendable findings that steered the unit in the accomplishment of mission.

Over-all performance, the command was able to obtain an excellent rating of 89.3 percent.

Two units and one office were also awarded with a Certificate of Recognition for obtaining a highest rating among other offices and units of the command.

The two units were 1st Signal Battalion, Army Signal Regiment; 1st Civil Military Operations Battalion of 1ID and the office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training, G8.

Brig. Gen. Bagnus P. Gaerlan Jr., the Acting Division Commander, expressed his gratitude to the inspecting team for their valuable services rendered to the command.

He also assured that the findings and gaps will be corrected and to strive more to accomplish the unit’s mission vis-à-vis boost the morale and welfare of the troops.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – The two Communist NPA Terrorists (CNT) leaders who were arrested in a joint checkpoint operation by AFP and PNP troops in Brgy Dableston, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, yesterday, have undergone inquest proceeding before the Lanao, del Norte prosecutor’s office today, December 2, 2019.

Accordingly, Christopher Cañete y Ruiz, known as Alias Glock and Virjon Virtudazo y Sagaysay also known as alias Thunder revealed the identities of other members of their group and some are allegedly hiding in plain sight.

They also revealed identities of their supporters, their locations and future plans. But details of their revelations are withheld for now pending further verification and investigation.

According to Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) acting commander, the current successful arrest and previous armed engagement with NPAs and other threat groups were widely due to the AFP’s newly acquired imaging technology which will be further enhanced in the coming year.

He further invited local NPA members, which he described as the exploited ones, to lay down their arms and return to the folds of our law through our E-CLIP program.

CAMP SANG-AN, Pulacan, Labangan, ZDS – Two Communist NPA Terrorists (CNT) leaders were apprehended in a joint checkpoint operation by the troops of 5th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, 49th Infantry Battalion and 2nd Maneuver Platoon, Regional Mobile Force Battalion, PNP in Brgy Dableston, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte, at 12:00 p.m. midnight, Sunday, December 1, 2019.

“The two were identified as Christopher Cañete y Ruiz or known as Alias Glock and Virjon Virtudazo y Sagaysay also known as alias Thunder” said Lt. Col. Rolando Orengo, 5th Mech Battalion Commander.

“Both were armed with one caliber .45 pistol, one caliber .38 revolver, an improvised explosive device and its paraphernalia and a rifle grenade during the apprehension”, he added.

During the custodial debriefing, Cañete and Virtuzado revealed to the troops an arms cache located in Brgy San Isidro, Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte.

Around 11:30 a.m. same day, the follow-up operation resulted into the discovery of seven M16 rifles, one AR18 rifle, one M203 Grenade Launcher, one caliber 38 revolver, 29 pcs. Bandoliers, 286 pcs. Magazines for m16 and 2,000 rounds of ammunitions.

According to Brig. Gen. Facundo Palafox IV, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander, who has operational jurisdiction of Lanao del Norte, “This is a big blow to the CNTs of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee because both were occupying top positions in their organization”.

“Cañete is a commander of one of the guerilla front companies, while Virtuzado is in charge of the recruitment and brainwashing the minds of their recruits in hinterlands of Iligan, Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental area”, added Palafox.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Bagnus Gaerlan Jr, the 1st Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Zampelan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao Provinces) acting commander, commended the efforts of the troops for the apprehension of two and the discovery of CNT’s arms cache.

“This significant accomplishment will weaken the CNTs recruitment and organizational works in our area of operation”, Gaerlan said.

“We urged the youth, indigenous peoples and the locals to be more vigilant and report to our troops the presence of armed and other threat groups in their communities”, Gaerlan added.
