Army Ranger now Leads Vigilant Battalion

CAMP SANG-AN, Labangan, ZDS – An Airborne Ranger-trained officer will now lead the 55th Infantry (Vigilant) Battalion after the change of command ceremony held at their headquarters, in Madalum, Lanao del Sur, on Sunday, February 02, 2020.

Lt. Col. Franco Raphael Alano, succeeded Lt. Col. Ian Noel Ignes, who have just finished his tour of duty as battalion commander and is set to be assigned to a higher position in Visayaz Region.

During his assumption speech, Alano vowed together with the Vigilant troopers to continue on the momentum that was already gained through exemplary teamwork and dedication to duty.

He also implored  local chief executives, agency heads community leaders and other stakeholders for their cooperation in the pursuit of lasting peace and sustainable development.

Lt. Col. Alano was a former Scout Ranger unit commander in his earlier years in the service. He was later designated as Civil Military Operations (CMO) Officer of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) then of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division.

LTC. ALANO is a member of the Philippine Military Academy class of 1998. He is a graduate of Command and General Staff Course, a prerequisite to the position he now assumed, in AFP Education Training doctrine Command. He is also a Fellow of the Mindanao Bridging Leadersip Program (MBLP) of the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati City.

Meanwhile, during his relinquishment speech, Ignes thanked local chief executives for the trust, support and cooperation with the battalion in accomplishing its mission.

He also thanked the troops for their service and longed to remain united and continue to believe as a team.

The presiding general and the commander of the 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, Brig. Gen. Gene Ponio, commended the outgoing battalion commander for his exemplary performance in Lanao del Sur and his tour of duty in 1ID.

He also awarded Lt. Col. Alano for his service as the former Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, G7, of the command.

“With his career and service reputation, I am confident that the new commander will steer the Vigilant battalion to the greater heights”, said Ponio.

“Let us look forward in achieving our mission in Lanao del Sur and uphold the duties and responsibilities mandated by the higher headquarters” Ponio added.
